SYENSQO

Organisation Introduction

SYENSQO is a science company whose technologies bring benefits to many aspects of daily life. We bond with customers and partners to address today and tomorrow’s megatrends. As a global leader in Materials, Chemicals and Solutions, SYENSQO brings advancements in planes, cars, batteries, smart and medical devices, water and air treatment, to solve critical industrial, societal and environmental challenges. You can count on our innovative solutions to contribute to a safer, cleaner and more sustainable future.

SYENSQO’s green hydrogen platform launched in 2021 brings together all the innovative material and chemical solutions the Group has to offer to advance the emerging green hydrogen economy. At the heart of the platform is SYENSQO’s membrane technology (ion conducting polymer), which constitutes a necessary component in the process of hydrogen production and end-uses. Rhodia Operations and Rhodia Laboratoire du Futur (SYENSQO affiliates) provide specific expertises in inorganic materials and formulation.

Why BRAVA?

The green hydrogen revolution is made a reality with SYENSQO’s advanced materials for hydrogen production, infrastructure and mobility. Used within electrolyzers, fuel cells and other facets of hydrogen systems, SYENSQO’s products and solutions support today’s leading hydrogen technology platforms. Our innovation focuses on enhancements to system durability, efficiency, safety and total cost of ownership to help our customers improve the viability and scalability of green hydrogen technology. And as the green hydrogen economy accelerates, we will continue to partner with customers to make it happen.

BRAVA project has been perceived as a great opportunity for SYENSQO to push beyond the state of the art our materials, in particular ionomers for membranes, to reach BRAVA overall objectives, in particular in terms of durability and efficiency. The BRAVA high demanding application (PEM-FC for aerospace) will also offer a significant progress and maturity on our materials to also serve other PEM-FC applications.

What in BRAVA?

SYENSQO contributes through its core expertise in fluoro ionomers development and characterisations for membranes and as binder for electrodes, together with expertise in radical scavenging solutions to extend the fuel cell durability. Moreover, in strong interaction with CNRS, we will investigate polymer reinforcement strategies to improve “composite” proton exchange membrane performances, such as mechanical stability, improving hydrogen barrier permeability while saving high proton conductivity at even low relative humidity by exploring thinner membrane design.
