Get to know Marcus Benedict Buntz from Aerostack

Hi, my name is Marcus Benedict Buntz and I am working at Aerostack

What was your original motivation to become a researcher?
I want to contribute towards a clean and sustainable aviation.

What is your (main) research area today?
I work on thermal stack modeling and two-phase cooling of fuel cell stacks.

What is the main objective of your team in BRAVA?
In the end of the project we would like to have demonstrated feasibility of two-phase cooling of fuel cell stacks.

What expertise and facilities does your team have to meet those objectives?

  • Long year experience with fuel cell
  • Several fuel cell test benches

Which aspects of your research at BRAVA do you believe are the most innovative and what unique opportunities offer BRAVA to yourself and/or your organisation?

  • Designing of flow fields for fuel cells that are capable for two-phase cooling and allowing optimal performance
  • Unique test equipment development like the small-scale two-phase loop to allow demonstration with actual fuel cell
  • Rapid prototyping of two-phase flow fields with graphitic cells

How do you see the future use of the BRAVA-results and the impact of BRAVA-project in our daily lives?

  • Increase the technology readiness level of aviation fuel cell stacks that are compatible with the two-phase cooling technique
  • Contribution to a lightweight thermal management solution to allow an overall efficient fuel cell system for aircraft propulsion
