Get to know Janina Pöss from Heraeus

Hi, I am Janina Pöss and I am working at Heraeus.

What was your original motivation to become a researcher?
My motivation to become a researcher is to work on innovation technologies and to develop new or improved materials. As a researcher, you are always faced with new challenges and strive to make a contribution to the next generation.

What is your (main) research area today?
I’m working on the development of catalysts for fuel cell and electrolysis operation, as well as the associated transfer of the synthesis to a production scale.

What is the main objective of your team in BRAVA?
Our goal is to reproduce the catalyst developed specifically for BRAVA and upscaling of the catalyst production to an industry relevant scale.

What expertise and facilities does your team have to meet those objectives?
Our expertise lies in the development of catalyst and their scale up into the simplest and most cost effective production operation. Our laboratory has the necessary means to realize different scale up sizes. Through our internal test center, catalyst can be tested and compared directly on site as CCM.

Which aspects of your research at BRAVA do you believe are the most innovative and what unique opportunities offer BRAVA to yourself and/or your organisation?
BRAVA offers us the opportunity to help lay the foundation for sustainable aircraft operations. This opens up insights into a new sales market for us.

How do you see the future use of the BRAVA-results and the impact of BRAVA-project in our daily lives?
I hope the results of the BRAVA project will help to realize a CO2-neutral aircraft operation. This would make airplane travel a sustainable, environmentally friendly and future-proof travel option. Furthermore, I hope for an establishment of new sales market for Heraeus.
